Who Is Planet Resource Recovery, Inc.?
What is PetroLuxus™ ?
Planet Resource Recovery, Inc. was founded in December, 2005 and has developed a proprietary platform of products based on a core technology known as PetroLuxus™. Based in Houston, the Company manufactures and markets the PetroLuxus™ platform of products, which represent a disruptive technology for use in the specialty and petrochemical industries. The products are comprised of a series of compounds with a wide array of applications, all of which benefit from its unique ability to dislodge hydrocarbons from organic and inorganic materials. The Company’s Phase I revenue approach is comprised of Environmental Remediation (“ER”), and Enhanced Oil Recovery (“EOR”). As additional products become market-ready, they will be added to revenue projections.
The PetroLuxus™ platform of products is a “Green Technology.” It is a non-toxic, nonflammable and environmentally friendly method of separating hydrocarbons from both man-made and naturally occurring materials. Currently, the most widely accepted methods for separating hydrocarbons from other materials are the utilization of chemicals, water and or steam under extremely high pressure and mechanical processes. These methods are labor intensive, energy intensive and frequently cost prohibitive. PetroLuxus™ provides an alternative technology that is more efficient and at a lower cost. PetroLuxus™ truly is a Disruptive Technology. It will disrupt currently accepted best practices and change the way hydrocarbons are managed throughout the world.
The Technology
The PetroLuxus™ platform of products are comprised of a series of nano-scale technologies based on inorganic compounds reconfigured and transformed into new inorganic compounds. The products work to initiate an ionic exchange mechanism that causes hydrocarbons to become colloidal and significantly more hydrophobic and thus lose their attraction to adulterates such as rock, clay, sand, dirt, metals and water. The result is that contaminates and toxins in the case of Environmental Remediation, and oil in the case of Enhanced Oil Recovery, lose their attraction to other material and separate more readily. Through the application of the PetroLuxus™ platform, separation and segregation of contaminates is achieved from target materials thus allowing an acceptably safe return of organic materials to the environment.
Additionally, PetroLuxus™ dramatically reduces the frictional coefficient of oil, allowing it to flow more readily. This reduces the relative viscosity of the oil by as much as ten times. PetroLuxus™ molecular size is extremely minute, allowing for penetration of treated materials at the molecular level. Upon contact, the chemical eliminates the interfacial surface tension between all matter with which it interacts, resulting in a stratification of materials into specific gravity layers providing for an efficient, cost effective extraction of both desirable and undesirable materials.
In addition to Environmental Remediation and EOR, the fundamental characteristics of the PetroLuxus™ platform of products make it conducive to a variety of additional applications, including; a) remediation of byproducts of green fuel technology, b) waste oil separation and recovery, c) crude oil storage tank cleaning and recovery, d) crude oil tanker and barge cleaning and recovery, e) emulsion breaking formulation, and f) Biodiesel feedstock treatment formulation.
A unique and highly desirable characteristic of PetroLuxus™ is that, for the majority of applications, little or no heat is required. This result is a considerable cost advantage over currently accepted methods of separation and segregation of contaminates.
Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)
The PetroLuxus™ platform of products has exceptional oil recovery characteristics. When introduced into an environment associated with traditional and non-traditional oil, the result is that the oil loses its attraction to other materials such as rock, sand, water and minerals, and thus separates more readily. PetroLuxus™ dramatically reduces the frictional coefficient of the oil allowing it to flow more readily. The latter influence produces the effect of reducing the relative viscosity of the oil by as much as ten times.
Oil Well Stimulation
The PetroLuxus™ platform is easily altered into an aqueous chemical solution designed to improve oil recovery in existing oil wells by penetrating and releasing trapped hydrocarbons. Once the surface tension bond that oil has with other matter, such as soil and rock, is broken, due to the highly negative conductivity of PetroLuxus™ the oil actively segregates from water. The result of segregation of oil at a lower viscosity is that oil will now more readily move and flow through pumps. Production increases of 100% to 500% have been attained with the treatment of PetroLuxus™. These performance levels have been sustained for months at a time. The treatment is relatively simple, as PetroLuxus™ is introduced into the wellbore and is commonly carried via water in a highly diluted state. The water and PetroLuxus™ then circulates through the wellbore for a few days, but is not pumped out. Once production is resumed the flow increases steadily over a period of several weeks and then typically stabilizes at the increased flow rate as compared to the pre-treatment production levels. This characteristic creates an excellent opportunity in the lucrative enhanced oil recovery (EOR) industry. PetroLuxus’ characteristics are conducive to stimulating low and medium producing oil wells.
Oil Well Cleaning and Remediation
The PetroLuxus™ platform dislodges hydrocarbons from most all other known matter which makes it a viable, cost-effective method of cleaning well pumping equipment, sludge pits, and spill areas. This process addresses a significant cost issue for well operators.
Oil Sand and Oil Shale
Oil sands and oil shale are naturally occurring mixtures of rock, sand, clay and water and an extremely dense and viscous form of petroleum referred to as bitumen. Oil sand and shale are found in large quantities in many countries throughout the world, but especially high quantities of oil sands exist in Canada, Venezuela and the U.S. When the PetroLuxus™ platform of products come in contact with oil sand and shale, the chemical eliminates the interfacial surface tension between the oil sand or shale and the oil itself, causing a stratification of the materials into gravity layers and allowing for an efficient extraction and harvesting of the valuable “non-conventional” oil, while leaving the remaining sand and shale in a safe, oil-free condition. Estimates of global deposits of oil shale range from 2.8 trillion to 3.3 trillion barrels of recoverable oil. A U.S. Geological Survey estimates undiscovered volumes of 3.65 billion barrels of oil in one area of the U.S. alone.
Abdallah S. Jum’ah, President, Director and CEO of Saudi Aramco said in 2008 that the world has adequate reserves of conventional and nonconventional oil sources that will last for more than a century. As recently as 2008 he stated, "We have grossly underestimated mankind’s ability to find new reserves of petroleum, as well as our capacity to raise recovery rates and tap fields once thought inaccessible or impossible to produce.” Mr. Jum'ah stated he believes that in-place conventional and non-conventional liquid resources may ultimately total between 13 trillion and 16 trillion barrels and that only a small fraction (1.1 trillion) has been extracted to date.
Environmental Remediation
Approximately 70% of all current toxic remediation is paid for by the responsible parties, who pay fines in excess of $100,000,000 per year until a site is acceptably remediated. The remaining sites are remediated by the government, utilizing funds procured pursuant to a tax on the petroleum and chemical industries. PetroLuxus™ has the potential to disrupt the currently available technologies and change the way these life-threatening environmental hazards are remediated. It is an invaluable technology in the remediation of environmental and industrial contamination. PetroLuxus™ can be chemically altered to address a wide range of known toxins and contaminates such as those discussed above, and many more. To date, the Company has proven its ability to remediate a number of such materials including hex-chrome, coal tar and creosote. In March of 2009, the Company successfully remediated a U.S. EPA Region III Superfund site governed by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Superfund and Brownfield Sites
In response to the environmental disasters of the Love Canal and Valley of the Drums, the U.S. government created the Superfund under the jurisdiction of the EPA. The function of the Superfund is to clean the nation’s hazardous waste sites in order to protect people from abandoned, heavily contaminated toxic waste sites. The National Priority List (“NPL”) is a list of the worst hazardous waste sites that have been identified by the EPA using the Hazard Ranking System. All sites on the NPL are eligible for cleanup using Superfund trust money. The EPA received $600 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to accelerate the remediation of Superfund sites.
Brownfield sites are generally abandoned or underutilized industrial or commercial facilities and are often made up of small parcels with multiple owners. Generally, other than funding the Brownfields program, the EPA is not involved in the cleanup of these properties. In the U.S., investigation and cleanup of Brownfield sites is largely regulated by state environmental agencies in cooperation with the EPA. Many of the most important provisions regarding liability relief related to Brownfield sites are contained in state codes, which can differ significantly from state to state. The EPA, together with local and national government, provides technical assistance and funding for assessment and cleanup of Brownfield sites, as well as tax incentives for cleanup and remediation. Remediation of such sites is typically not required to be capitalized and is fully deductible in the year the expense is incurred.
Vessel Remediation - Marine Barges, Ship Tankers and Storage Tanks
The PetroLuxus™ platform remediates high-value transport tankers for use with less caustic or chemically incompatible materials that are currently the accepted best practice in the industry. The cost to clean and remediate a barge or tanker ship is in the tenths of percent of the cost of replacing that same vessel.
Green and Fossil Fuel Byproducts
The PetroLuxus™ platform treats and remediates key waste and byproduct plaguing both the fossil fuel and green energy technology industries worldwide. It cleans and reconstitutes coal and effectively and efficiently remediates contaminates from oil pits, oil storage tanks, “frac” tanks, waste oil spills and other similar storage and hazardous applications. It also addresses and remediates coal tar contaminated Manufactured Gas Plants (MPG’s) byproducts, a key concern to the state and federal authorities charged with protecting people from the byproducts of fuel production seeping into the water table or becoming airborne.
