"Many leading generals & senior staff are out of touch!"
"Media & politics play too big a role with
military leaders!"
"Prime Minister Maleki is not in charge of his country"
"Corruption is rampant within Iraqi government!"
"Iraqi military and police are a long way from ready!"
Major Philip McIntire is a highly decorated US Army
officer, and warmly regarded as a can-do leader by fellow officers and
soldiers on the ground in Iraq. He has served our country since 1981,
and has always been a 'Soldier's, Soldier,' who is very much in-tune with
the heartbeat of
fighting men and women, and action in the field.
After 26 years, McIntire
has decided to retire. Even though he agrees that we must stay the
course in Iraq, he is alarmed that many of the real problems
America faces are not reported in the news.
He
is coming forward as the voice of our soldiers on the ground.
McIntire was a frontline soldier and administrator with the
local governments in some of the most volatile areas of Iraq, which
positions him to offer a unique perspective to the American people.
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of P.M. Maleki?
- When will the Iraqi police and military be able
to take over the country?
- What is the current war plan?
- How well informed are our senior military leaders
about the war on the ground?
- What will happen if a pull-out date is announced?
- How is Iraqi corruption affecting our military activities?
- How does the soldier's morale stay high during these times?
Major
McIntire says, "many of our leading Generals and senior staff
need to be more in touch with the realities
on the ground, and be less
influenced by the media and politics at home. Too often Senior
leadership plays to politics rather than listen to their field
officers and soldiers in the field."
McIntire goes on to say, "
the
game plan is a little vague. Too often it's simply...'GO
OUT THERE AND GET THE BAD GUYS.' The present
battle plan does not play directly and effectively in helping the Iraqi
military and police take over the country, and the speed of their
readiness is influenced greatly by their questionable loyalties to the
old regime and tribal leaders. Corruption is rampant within the Iraqi
government, and despite our generosity, there is always a 'hand out for a hand up'...how much more can you give us and when?"
"We must take a hard look at what is in our best
interests, and the Iraqi people must start to stand up for their own
freedoms. The Iraqi government must take a more active role in
getting their own
resources up to speed in the development of their economy. These people must begin to stand on their own two feet"
Major McIntire is a double bronze star winner with
valor for saving two fellow soldiers in combat. He served as a Major
assigned to the 101st Airborne with the same regiment as the Band of
Brothers, that was featured in the award-winning HBO film.
McIntire has just returned home in Southfield, MI.
after an 18-month absence. He is also working on a new book that will be
released later this year, titled, 'Band of Brothers II - My Tour of Duty.'For a more
