Historian and Author Delivers Insider Information on Afghanistan's Plight

[Dec. 10, 2007] MaryAnn T. Beverly is a historian, humanitarian, and the author of  From That Flame, a book that focuses on the life of freedom fighter, Ahmed Shah Massoud, and his twenty year, relentless struggle to bring peace and democracy to the Afghan people. Known as the Lion of Panjshir. Massoud was assassinated under orders from Osama bin Laden just two days before 19 terrorists flew airliners into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.

While Beverly researched her book, she became friends with freedom fighters who fought alongside Massoud, as well as Afghan politicians. These included Zahir Sajanie, a mujahidin who spent over 20 years with Massoud. She was also introduced and became friends with Ambassador Haroun Amin, whose history in Afghanistan dates back to 1979 when he led protests against the Soviets after their invasion.

In the months since completion of her book, these individuals have remained in touch with Beverly, sharing with her the real scoop as an onslaught of insurgents pour back into the country. She also received a call from Ahmed Wali Massoud, Ahmed Shah's brother, and brother to the current Vice President of Afghanistan, Ahmed Zia Massoud. They are urging Beverly to report to western media that a Taliban-controlled state is in the making.

In a recent radio interview, Beverly had this to say: "Ahmed Massoud tried to warn us of  impending danger from Osama bin Laden in 2001. We didn't listen to him then, but we had better listen to his people now, before it's too late!"

Here are talk points that Mary Ann Beverly will share:
  • Insurgents are pouring back into Afghanistan in overwhelming numbers, under-reported in western media.
  • What are Warlords, Freedom Fighters and Afghan politicians saying about the state of affairs in their country?
  • Why are Afghans turning towards the Taliban for protection?
  • Why is NATO not rebuilding its troop strength in Afghanistan? Current troop numbers are inadequate to drive the Taliban back out of the country.
  • Is it possible that bin Laden could take a run for the Pakistan presidency? After all, he has a 52% approval rating in that country. Could he win
  • As President, bin Laden would have access to the Pakistani military - including its nuclear arsenal.

Beverly constructed an accurate timeline from 1997 to present day that may shock you (Click Here).

While bin Laden hides in the mountains along the Pakistan, Afghanistan border, insurgents are reorganizing and terrorizing Afghan Tribal chieftains and parliamentarians. According to recent news reports, It is the insurgents' strategy to convince Afghans that their government and its Western backers are totally unable to bring security to their country, prompting Afghans to lean towards the Taliban for leadership and protection (read recent stories).
